Fobs stop working for ordinary reasons: a flat coin cell, a cracked shell, worn button contacts, a dropped fob that lost its pairing, or a replacement that was never paired. Typically 15-40 minutes for a remote pairing or a shell and battery rebuild. Smart-key fobs with an emergency blade to cut and a module enrollment are at the long end of that range, and vehicles whose procedure re-enrolls every fob take longer when there are several.

• Some onboard pairing procedures (older Ford, GM, Chrysler and Nissan remotes, for example) erase every remote not present during the procedure, so bring all of them
• A cheap aftermarket fob with the right look but the wrong frequency or board revision will not pair; we only fit fobs we can confirm for your VIN
• Water damage to the circuit board is usually not worth repairing; a new fob is the reliable fix
• Vehicles behind a dealer security gateway (many 2018-and-newer Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram) and dealer-locked late-model European smart keys limit on-site pairing; we confirm by VIN
• Remote-start fobs for aftermarket systems are paired to the installer's module, not the car, and need that system's procedure
• A dead 12V battery stops the car from entering pairing mode

Try a fresh battery first. If a new battery does not fix it, the fob may need re-pairing or replacement.
