• Inspection of the door, jamb, stop, hinges and the existing strike and screws
• Replacement of the deadbolt strike with a heavy-gauge box or four-screw security strike, fastened with 3-inch screws into the stud
• Hinge-side upgrade: 3-inch screws in every hinge and security studs on outswing doors
• Jamb reinforcement plates that run the length of the strike side on doors with a weak or split jamb
• Door edge wrap-around plates on doors cracked around the lock bore
• Latch guards and astragals on doors where the latch or bolt gap can be pried

Typically 30-60 minutes per door for a strike and hinge screw upgrade, and 60-120 minutes for a full jamb reinforcement or the repair of a split jamb. Metal frames, doors whose stop and jamb need rebuilding after a kick-in, and multiple doors take longer.

• Reinforcement makes the frame as strong as the deadbolt; it does not rescue a cheap short-throw deadbolt or a door with glass beside the lock, so we recommend fixing those together
• Long screws need wood framing behind the jamb; on steel frames or jambs shimmed far from the stud, a different reinforcement method is used
• A jamb already split by a kick-in can often be repaired with a jamb plate, but a badly shattered jamb needs replacement or carpentry before any strike will hold
• Sidelights and glass panels next to the door remain a weak point; a double-cylinder deadbolt is one answer but conflicts with egress requirements on a required exit door, so we do not recommend it there
• Sliding glass doors need different measures, covered under patio door service
• In a rental the owner authorizes the work, and HOAs may have rules on exterior plates that show
• Reinforcement is a companion to a Grade 1 deadbolt, not a substitute for one

Repair makes sense when the lock body is sound and the problem is alignment, a worn spring, a loose spindle or a sticking cylinder. Replace when the lock is worn through, parts are discontinued, the door was forced, or you want a higher grade. On sliding and patio doors the hook or latch is often replaceable without changing the handle set; on garage and gate hardware the latch and the lock are usually separate parts.
