• Adjustment cannot fix a closer that is leaking. Once the hydraulic fluid is out, the unit is replaced
• A closer only works on a door that is square and swings freely. Sagging hinges, a dragging bottom edge, a binding strike or a warped leaf must be corrected or the door still will not latch
• Fire-rated doors must self-close and positively latch every time, and the closer must be listed for the rated assembly. Hold-open arms, kick-down stops and wedges are not permitted on them unless the hold-open releases on fire alarm
• Accessibility rules cap the opening force on interior doors along accessible routes. Exterior doors are treated differently and sometimes need a power-assist or automatic operator rather than a lighter closer
• Powered automatic operators, floor-concealed closers in storefront thresholds, and overhead concealed units in pivoted doors are specialized; we service many of them but confirm the model before quoting
• Exterior doors in heavy wind sometimes exceed what a standard closer can control; a heavier unit, a stop or a holder may be needed

Repair makes sense when the lock body is sound and the problem is alignment, a worn spring, a loose spindle or a sticking cylinder. Replace when the lock is worn through, parts are discontinued, the door was forced, or you want a higher grade.
